Frequently Asked Questions

When is the best time to plant bermuda seed?

Plant bermuda seed in late spring to early summer when soil temperatures are consistently above 65 degrees F. Bermuda seed needs warmth to germinate and will not establish in cool soil.

Can I seed hybrid bermuda?

No. Hybrid bermuda varieties like Tifway 419 and TifTuf are sterile and must be established from sod, plugs, or sprigs. Only common bermuda is available as seed.

How long does bermuda seed take to germinate?

Bermuda seed typically germinates in 7-14 days under ideal conditions with consistent moisture and warm soil temperatures. Full establishment takes 60-90 days.

Should I use sod or seed for bermuda?

Sod gives instant results and works for both common and hybrid varieties. Seed is cheaper but only available for common bermuda and takes longer to establish. Choose based on your budget and timeline.
